When was the first RDC meeting?
The RDC held its inaugural meeting on 30 July 2003.
How often are RDC meetings held?
It is expected that RDC will meet at least once a year.
RDC may also settle particular issues by correspondence, when insufficient issues exist to require a meeting.
Where are the RDC meetings held?
RDC meetings are held at different regional locations around the States and Territories. Between 2003 and August 2009, RDC meetings were held in Canberra (2003), Coffs Harbour (2005), Alice Springs (2006), Cairns (2007), Broome (2008) and Bendigo (2009).
Who is a member of RDC?
RDC comprises the Australian Commonwealth, State/Territory and New Zealand Ministers responsible for regional development, and a representative from the Australian Local Government Association.
The Commonwealth Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government chairs the RDC.
How is the agenda set?
Potential RDC issues may emerge from major initiatives of one government which impact on other governments or that require the cooperation of other governments.
Other issues come to RDC from the Standing Committee on Regional Development (SCORD) or the Management Working Group (MWG).
The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, as chair of RDC, also seeks suggestions from RDC members as to what might be on the agenda for particular meetings.
Can I get a copy of the agenda?
Normally the agenda is not available publicly prior to a meeting. However, immediately following a meeting the communiqué is made available on the RDC website.
What is the Communiqué?
The Communiqué is the record of the outcomes of a RDC meeting.
How does RDC make decisions?
RDC reaches decisions through consensus of all members.
